Nottingham Forest have confirmed that Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi won’t feature for the club against Arsenal later this afternoon.
Nottingham Forest will commence their 2023-2024 Premier League campaign against Arsenal who finished second on the league table last season.
The match which will take place at the Emirates Stadium is scheduled to kick off at 12:30 p.m.
Unfortunately for Forest who fought until the last days of last season to escape relegation, they won’t be with their last season’s hero, Taiwo Awoniyi.
The Nigeria international is just recovering from an ankle ailment and has not started full training before the commencement of the new season.
Recall that towards the end of last season, Awoniyi scored one of the most important goals of his career against Arsenal at the City Ground in May. The 1-0 defeat is seen as the point of the season Arsenal lost their grip on the Premier League title race to Manchester City, the eventual winners.
Unfortunately, Awoniyi will not be able to compete against the newly crowned Community Shield winners as coach Steve Cooper confirmed in his press conference before his team’s trip to the Emirates Stadium that the Nigerian forward is not fit enough for the clash.
“Felipe, for sure. Moussa is just about returning to training, and so is Taiwo, so the game probably comes too soon for them,” the coach said.
